Claire Atkins is an artist and editor with more than 20 years experience working on community arts projects and international cultural events. She has seen first-hand how the arts enliven communities and give powerful expression to their celebrations of place. North Byron Parklands is of particular significance to her as her family have lived and farmed this area of the Northern Rivers since the 1800s.
As Parklands’ Community Advocate, Claire meets with individuals, community groups and business owners to listen to their concerns, and to discuss the benefits and negative impacts the development has on the local community.
She works together with Parklands’ General Manager and Community Manager, Planners, Stakeholders, and the Event Promoters in developing strategies to maximise the benefits of the development for the region, and mitigate potential and actual negative impacts on the local community.
